Prosthetic Treatment Process
We want you to have a clear understanding of what to expect when working with Hodgson. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality care at every stage of your prosthetic journey, from pre-amputation planning to post-amputation healing and rehabilitation.
Pre-Amputation Planning
We’d love to meet you before your surgery! This is so we can guide you through creating a personalized prosthetic plan that ensures a smooth process post-amputation. This plan is tailored to your preferences and needs, setting the stage for successful rehabilitation.
Post-Amputation Healing
Your prosthetist collaborates with your rehabilitation team to ensure optimal wound healing, pain management, and limb preparation for prosthesis use. We utilize a special sock, known as a shrinker, to reduce swelling and shape your limb for a perfect fit.
Prosthetic Care
Design
Your prosthetist will discuss various prosthetic options with you, helping you choose the best fit for your body and lifestyle. Once your limb is healed, we begin crafting your custom prosthesis.
Prototype
You will first try a prototype made partly of clear plastic to ensure proper fit, function, and alignment while you learn to use it.
Fine Tuning
After the prototype phase, we create your definitive prosthesis, which you can personalize to your liking. You will receive easy-to-follow instructions on its use and care. We also schedule regular meetings to make adjustments and fine-tune your prosthesis as your body and needs change.
Maturity
Once you’re fully adapted, you’ll be able to participate in life without needing frequent appointments, aside from occasional visits for supplies.
Treatment Update
If something feels off, you notice wear and tear, or it’s been over a year since your last visit, call us to book an appointment. We are always here to ensure your prosthetic or orthopedic device continues to meet your needs effectively.
