At Hodgson Orthotics and Prosthetics, our primary goal is to help adults maintain an active, independent life by restoring stability and maximizing comfortable mobility. We offer a full spectrum of customized Adult Lower Limb Orthoses—ranging from custom foot orthotics to full-leg bracing and advanced Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES).

1. Custom Foot Orthoses (Orthotics)
The health and condition of your feet can have a huge impact on your quality of life and ability to go about your daily activities.
Our certified Orthotists can fabricate custom foot orthoses to address pathologies and conditions common in adults:
- Pain Management: Treating conditions like plantar fasciitis, sore feet or ankles, and arthritis.
- Alignment Correction: Addressing issues like excessive pronation that affect posture and gait.
- Diabetic Foot Care: Providing essential support and pressure relief to prevent complications for those with diabetic foot concerns.
Our Custom Fabrication Process:
- Comprehensive Assessment: Our clinicians complete a biomechanical assessment and gait analysis to assess the mechanics of your feet and how this may affect the rest of your body.
- Personalized Plan: We create a plan based on your symptoms, a static and dynamic assessment, and your goals and lifestyle.
- Precision Fit: The Orthotist takes a custom mold, ensuring your feet are carefully held in a corrected position.
- Ongoing Support: Once your foot orthoses are fitted, we can make adjustments in our workshop to continue to provide the best fit for you. We will also discuss the importance of proper footwear and can provide assistance to help you select appropriate shoes for your feet.
2. Custom Bracing (Lower Limb Orthoses)
When your needs extend beyond the foot—requiring support for the ankle, knee, or the entire leg—we design and fabricate custom braces (also known as orthoses), such as AFOs (Ankle-Foot Orthoses) or KAFOs (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses).
When you see the Orthotist for a custom brace, you will be engaged in a collaborative process based on goals that you and your Orthotist set.
- Assessment: A thorough functional assessment of your muscular and skeletal system will be performed to establish the best treatment plan for you.
- Creative Solutions: Our Orthotists pursue creative solutions to unique challenges based on assessment findings and patient input, ensuring the brace is comfortable, effective, and minimally invasive.
- Long-Term Care: As your physical needs change, we follow up to re-design and strategically adjust our braces and treatment plans. Through regular follow-ups and reassessment of goals, we strive to maintain ongoing relationships and continually improve your quality of life.

3. Advanced Solution: Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
Portable Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a new and exciting alternative to wearing externally applied braces (AFOs or KAFOs) on your leg for improved walking. FES works by internally stimulating your nerves to help you regain your foot and knee control and improve your quality of life.
We provide patients with the clinical support of the Bioness FES systems, which have been shown to be effective for those living with neurological conditions, including:
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Stroke or Brain-injury
- Cerebral Palsy (CP)
The portable FES system can improve ankle range of motion, control knee motion, and reduce the effects of spasticity on walking. All this without needing to worry about footwear.
- Trial Program: We have designed a fully integrated assessment and extended three-week trial program to give our patients a chance to learn how to use the FES system and assess whether or not it is right for their lifestyle and goals.
- Empowerment: Whether you are looking to stop tripping from foot drop or to improve your knee stability, FES is a powerful empowerment tool.
