We believe every child deserves the opportunity to live life to the fullest. At Hodgson Orthopedic Group, we design Pediatric Upper Limb Prostheses to help children, adolescents, and their families navigate life with confidence and independence.

What is a Pediatric Upper Limb Prosthesis?
A pediatric upper limb prosthesis is a custom-designed artificial device that replaces a missing part of a child’s arm, from the hand up to the shoulder. Due to a child’s continuous growth, active lifestyle, and unique emotional needs, these prostheses require a specialized approach—something we’ve been dedicated to providing since 1968.
Our solutions are not “one-size-fits-all.” We focus on personalized prosthetic design, utilizing a mix of trusted traditional methods and modern technologies (including 3D printing and myoelectric systems) to create a device that is comfortable, functional, and even fun for your child. The goal is to restore function and promote healthy development, all while ensuring the device is aesthetically pleasing and tailored to their personality
Who is Best Suited for a Pediatric Upper Limb Prosthesis?
Pediatric upper limb prostheses are essential for children with congenital limb deficiency (born with a limb difference) or those who have experienced acquired limb loss (due to trauma or illness).
Best-suited patients include:
- Infants to teenagers who are living with congenital limb differences (such as transverse or longitudinal deficiencies) and are candidates for early intervention to support motor skill development.
- Children and Adolescents with acquired upper limb amputation who need a device to help them return to activities of daily living (ADLs), school, and sports.
The decision to use a prosthesis is highly personal and often involves the child, parents, and a multi-disciplinary care team. Our team makes decisions with compassion, ensuring the prosthetic device aligns with the child’s age, developmental stage, unique goals, and active lifestyle. Along the way, we share options for fit, design, and aesthetics so you and your child can feel supported each step of the way.
